AFROPHTHA’s Competency-Based Approach (CPA) is a structured, hospital-based training program designed to strengthen the capacity of surgeons, OT assistants, and all key players in the eye care supply chain. This immersive training ensures that medical teams develop expertise in their natural work environment, allowing them to address real-world challenges effectively.

Program Overview

  • Host Hospital-Based Training: Conducted at a fully equipped hospital.

  • Duration: 10 days (extendable based on learner proficiency).

  • Trainees per Slot:

    • Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS): 2 trainees

    • Phacoemulsification Surgery (Phaco): 1 trainee

  • Addressing the shortage of optometrists in French-speaking Africa, this program enhances the quality of local eye care through strategic partnerships and donor support.
