ABOUT US
Created in 2023, the Africa Ophthalmology Network Foundation, AFROPHTHA is a non-profit organization that promotes access to quality eye care to as many people as possible by networking the different actors involved, namely healthcare personnel, and medical establishments. health, academic actors, service providers, organizations, industries, and foundations to support sustainable actions in the field of eye health. AFROPHTHA, in the implementation of her activities, is focused on:
1. Training of eye health personnel
2. Facilitating accessibility to quality care for our populations
3. Advocacy through a vast network of influence and behavioral change regarding
eye health
4. Promoting eye care research
OUR MISSIONS
1. Promote the acquisition of new skills and capacity building of healthcare workers through “targeted training” focused on specific needs;
2. Organize short targeted training courses through “hospital-based training
program” permitting the training of eye care teams at implementation sites whenever possible, or through other collaborations;
3. Promote access to quality eye care of international standards to the greatest number of people through diverse eye care networks;
4. Develop eye care networks (care, training, and research) in Africa and across the world;
5. Facilitate the search for funding for eye care, training, and research projects on public health issues in eye health aimed primarily at disadvantaged groups.

1. Hospital Based Training Program
Through this training program, our experts equip medical and surgical teams as well as all the different players in the supply chain on patient care. This has the advantage of training staff in their natural environment to close up their challenges. 2.The Ophthalmic Assistant Training Program
This special program, certified by the Joint Commission for Allied Ophthalmic Personnel (JCAHPO), is an American certification for ophthalmology auxiliary personnel.
3. The Training Program for Optometrists and Opticians
Almost non-existent in French-speaking Africa, the training of optometrists is a flagship activity which aims to improve the quality of local eye care with training partners and other donors. The training of opticians to compensate for the very high rate of refractive errors is a fundamental element in the training of eye health personnel.
4. Community Eye Health
With the aim of promoting quality but affordable care in the vast majority of our populations, our community eye health programs are well designed to provide adequate solutions to local needs.

5. ADVOCACY AND FUNDRAISING
Our team, through our networks of governmental and non-governmental organizations, learned societies as well as people of goodwill, is aimed at mobilizing and raising funds in order to carry out actions aimed at raising public awareness of the problem of eye health in Africa. These actions also extend to mobilizing available resources to promote eye health to the most disadvantaged people.
6. RESEARCH AND SCIENTIFIC DEVELOPMENT IN EYE HEALTH
Through our various interventions in the implementation of our missions, AFROPHTHA with its partners, promotes the collection of reliable data to improve research and scientific development in Africa.
